Observations on Xenobiology
Species: Time Lord

by Dr. Grace Holloway

It is only by the leave of one dear friend that I am able to make these observations. Why he trusted me in the first place, he never said, but it is still a surprise even when I look back that he was willing to be so close to me. It was I who killed him, when we first met. Of course I did not intend it; just the opposite. I could not possibly have known what he was. But that horrible mistake is the reason I had to make this study. I could not allow myself to remain ignorant of his physiology; not if he should ever need my help again.

A note on terminology

The term "Time Lord" is not actually the name of the species; it is a title earned through roughly one hundred years of education. The species does not have a name as such; the closest thing would be to call them Gallifreyans, for the planet they come from. But because I also talk here about special senses and control of the body, and I don't know how much of this is inherent and how much is learned through that education, I will frequently refer to the species as Time Lords anyway.
